Kat puryear

My inspiration has always been people; creating an environment that makes them feel comfortable in their own skin, feel valued, and feel like they can make a difference in the lives of others and our society. Simply because our lives are enriched not by recognition, but by the influence of our lives upon others.

 

Kat's talents started at the age of 2 years old when her mother enrolled her in gymnastics. For 12 years she trained and eventually competed as a level 9 gymnast at the mere age of 13.

 

After taking a year off of sports, Kat's grandmother (Oma) encouraged her to compete in pageants. After having no pageant experience, Kat competed for Miss Thomasville's Outstanding Teen and won! Then went on to compete at Miss North Carolina's Outstanding Teen and became the FIRST black teen titleholder in 2009. She placed 3rd RU in the National competition, Miss America's Outstanding Teen. 

 

From there she went on to dance competitively winning multiple awards for her solos, duets, and trios. After a 2 year break, Kat went to compete at Miss North Carolina Teen USA and made history yet again by becoming the FIRST black titleholder in 2012. She placed in the top 10 at Miss Teen USA.

Now Kat is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelors in Organizational Communication and a double minor in Journalism and Urban Youth and Communities. Did we mention she graduated Cum Lade and WITHOUT ANY DEBTS or LOANS! She is currently in her 4th season as a professional NBA dancer for the Charlotte Hornets.
